Our Story

A business built on service, value and quality

Bill Oaten first opened the Kyogle Appliance Centre in 1973. Selling electrical appliances, Bill developed a reputation for value and service, later expanding into furniture in a second store.

Several relocations, store mergers and a rebranding saw the business evolve into the impressive modern showroom that Oaten’s is today.

A major remodelling project in 2003 doubled the showroom floor to 2000m2, making Oaten’s home to the largest display of fine furniture and quality household goods between Port Macquarie and Tweed Heads.

Our focus on quality and classic styles has seen Oaten’s not only stand the test of time, but also emerge as a unique player among the bulk-buying, cut-price chains found in big cities.

We’re talking handcrafted Tasmanian timber tables, luxurious Norwegian leather lounges, and super soft sofas made to order in Melbourne, to name a few.

Oaten’s is also the exclusive retailer in their area for quality brands such as Stressless and IMG Comfort.

Meet our team

The patriarch of the family business, Bill has invested more than 40 years at Oaten’s. His expertise and experience are an asset to the team and to his customers.

“I’m proud of what we have achieved here at Oaten’s. To start off with $3000 of stock in a small store and to look at the display we have in the showroom today is really rewarding.”

Mark joined his father Bill in the family business almost
40 years ago and remains passionate about Oaten’s products and future.

“We pride ourselves on selling something different to what everyone else has. My goal for Oaten’s is to uphold our long history of offering exclusive, quality brands and a level of service that keeps our customers coming back.”

Loren is very passionate about Oaten’s products and getting to work with some of the most beautiful furniture from Australian Made to Scandinavian designs and imports.

“Learning about these products has taught me that a chair isn’t just a chair. The quality and the work that goes into the products has a story … A story we are more than happy to tell.”

Renate is a passionate team member, who has been
with Oaten’s for 12 years, working to do the best to
serve the wider community.

Mark has done deliveries for Oaten’s as far up as Brisbane and as far down as PortMacquarie, always working to ensure each product is packed and delivered with the very best care.
